This antique Chinese blue silk damask brocade forbidden stitch embroidered trim robe dates from the the mid 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a royal blue color silk damask weave brocade fabric, with the Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune woven into the pattern and other auspicious objects, bats, butterflies and clouds. There is a black silk trim collar and edging with beautifully hand embroidered, forbidden stitch Peking knot peony flowers and gold couching work accents. There are blue silk embroidered sleeve cuff bands with green birds and butterflies. This magnificent Manchu womens robe has carved round brass buttons, silk loop toggles for closure along the side, long full sleeves with wide cuffs, side skirt vents and is fully lined inside. The robe measures 38 inches long, with a 50 inch waist, chest and 36 inch sleeve cuff circumference. It is in as-is fair condition, with some fraying along the black silk trim, collar, shoulder and faint staining on the front opening, sleeves cuffs (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese art! |
