Nan Merriman Opera Singer Vintage Black Lace Silver Glitter Soutache Evening Gown. Tweet
|
This vintage black lace silver glitter soutache evening gown dress comes from the estate of opera singer Nan Merriman and dates from the 1940s. It is made of a luxurious sheer black lace mesh net fabric, with black shading and raised glittering silver black soutache work trim accents creating a floral vine leaf spiral pattern design. This gorgeous gown has a long floor length slight back train skirt, scalloped edge low scoop front neckline, sleeveless, backless, unlined and has a back zipper closure. The dress is a large size measuring 61 inches long in the front and 71 inches long in the back, with 40 inch hips, a 30 inch waist and 38 inch bust. It comes with the original black silk rayon slip with side zipper closure for wearing underneath the gown. This opulent opera gown was custom made and worn by the famous mezzo-soprano singer Nan Merriman for her live performances (see provenance with play bill info below which is not included with gown). It is in good condition, with a few small frayed holes along the bottom skirt and some slight discoloration with thinning fabric under the arms (see close-ups). This is truly an exceptional quality made piece of wearable art! |
