This antique Chinese blue silk forbidden stitch embroidered butterfly robe jacket dates from 1900 during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a dark midnight blue color silk fabric, with hand embroidered, forbidden stitch Peking knot beautiful butterflies and flowers. This magnificent Manchu womens robe appears to have been altered creating a short cropped capelet dolman mantle style robe jacket, with a fitted slit vent back, wide batwing armholes, with long full sleeves inside, flared wide cuffs, a mandarin collar, with hook, snap closures along the side and is fully lined, with a waistband tie strap. The robe measures 22 inches long, with a 50 inch waist, chest and 22 inch long sleeves. It is in good condition, with only some slight wear frays along the collar (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese art! |
