This antique Chinese silk forbidden stitch gold couching embroidery tunic tabard dress dates from the 1920s. It is made of a late 19th century Qing Dynasty Han wedding skirt fabric apron panels and remade into a 1920s flapper tunic tabard style dress. It is made of a black silk fabric, with muted colors of Peking knot forbidden stitch and gold couching hand embroidery work designs of Chinese guardian lion foo dog, spotted deer, bats, peaches, peony flowers, vases auspicious symbols for good fortune and longevity. This exquisitely embroidered Chinese inspired tunic tabard style dress has two matching embroidered apron panels on the front and back attached at the shoulders, with open sides, a rounded neckline and silk pastel floral damask ribbon trim edging. The dress measures 38 inches long, with a 30 inch bust and each panel is 15 inches wide. It is in good condition. This is truly a wonderful and rare piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art!
