This antique Victorian era black Chantilly lace sheer silk sequin polka dot gown bodice skirt dress dates from 1890. It is made of a sheer black striped silk chiffon fabric, with large black sequin polka dots and black Chantilly, white lace trim appliqué accents. There are black chenille velvet wheat stalk spikelets appliqué trim hanging down along the front bodice. This magnificent gown two piece dress has a pigeon front bodice blouse top with a high neck collar, fancy lace trimmings, long sheer swiss dotted net pleated gathered sleeves, a fitted belted waist with steel cut button trim and hook closures down the back and is lined in white silk taffeta with stays boning inside. There is a "Flint & Kent, Buffalo" label sewn inside the bodice waistband. The bodice measures 20 inches long, with a 24 inch waist, 36 inch bust and 21 inch sleeve. There is a matching fabric polka dot sequin embellished skirt, with pleated ruffle hemline, gathering and slight train back, hook closures on the back waist and is lined with a white silk taffeta petticoat sewn inside. The skirt measures 40 inches long in the front, 50 inches long in the back, with a 24 inch waist. It is in fair as-is condition, with some fraying separation on the sheer silk chiffon fabric bodice and the white lace appliques on the front top have some age spot stains (see close-ups). Also the white silk taffeta fabric lining both the bodice and skirt is shattered and frayed needing to be removed and replaced. This would be great for display, design, study, pattern or restoration.
