This vintage Japanese yellow silk butterfly embroidered kimono robe, sash and slippers date from the 1920s. It is made of a yellow fine silk fabric, with colorful pastel silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of butterflies and pink roses flowers. This lovely long floor length kimono robe has an open front, matching silk embroidered fringe trim ends sash tie belt for closure, full kimono sleeves, a rolled cotton batting stuffed hem and is fully lined. There is a "Made in Japan for John Wanamaker New York Philadelphia Paris" label sewn inside. The kimono measures 57 inches long, with 21 inch long kimono sleeves, 52 inch bust and 52 inch waist. Included with the robe is a matching pair of silk embroidered slippers shoes, with yellow silk ribbon lacing ties and woven horse hair stitched bottom soles. The slippers measure 9 1/2 inches long and 3 inches wide. The outfit is in excellent condition and appears to have never been worn. This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of wearable antique Japanese textile art! |
