This antique early Victorian era paisley roller print wool challis fringed shawl scarf dates from the 1850s. It is made of a soft light weight fine Kashmir challis wool weave drawloom fabric, with a cream color background, colorful pinks and blues natural dye roller print paisley pattern design done throughout. There is a hand knotted cream wool fringe surrounding the entire shawl. These early shawls were made in Norwich, England and Paisley, Scotland with the fabric and designs taken from the shawls made in India and Kashmir. This stunning shawl square measures 60 by 60 inches. It is in good condition, with only a few tiny moth nip holes and two small age spot stains on the side (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of early Victoriana wearable paisley textile art! |
