This antique Chinese black silk embroidered shou longevity medallion gold couching coat robe dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black silk fabric, with blue silk raised padded satin stitch and gold couching embroidery work decorative roundels medallions of the Chinese character shou that represents longevity symbolizing long life and good health. This magnificent Manchu robe surcoat is a long length, loose fitting, with a front opening knotted button toggle closures, long sleeves, with woven silk trim edging the cuffs, collar and is fully lined. The robe measures 48 inches long, with a 42 inch waist and 44 inch chest. It is in excellent condition, with only one sleeve cuff loose needing minor stitching along the seam (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!
