Antique Chinese Red Silk Embroidery Forbidden Stitch Sleeve Band Cuff Qipao Robe
This antique Chinese red silk embroidered forbidden stitch sleeve band cuff qipao robe dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of an imperial hue red color silk damask weave swastika patterned for longevity fabric, with colorful silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of peony flower vases which are symbols of love and affection, grapes and pomegranate for fertility, posterity, wealth and abundance. There is silk damask woven ribbon trim edging and white silk wide sleeve band cuffs with colorful forbidden stitch Peking knot hand embroidery work of Chinese figures. This magnificent Manchu womens qipao one piece dress style robe is loose fitting, a long mid length, with a rounded neckline, wide full long sleeves, a front side opening, black silk loops, round brass button toggle closures which are loose and is fully lined in a blue silk. The robe measures 42 inches long, with a 50 inch chest, 56 inch waist and 16 inch wide sleeve. It is in good condition, with only some fraying along the collar trim at the shoulder, sleeve cuff creased edging and inside neck lining. This is truly a rare red color and wonderful piece of wearable antique Chinese textile art!
