This antique Victorian era M.A. Smyth & Co. black silk lace mutton sleeve mourning bodice jacket dates from the 1880s. It is made of a black silk grosgrain ribbed textured fabric, with a black lace trim front panel and sleeve cuffs. This beautiful black bodice jacket, has a fitted tailored style, with wired stand up back collar trimmed in lace going all the way down the front insert, gathered puffed shoulders with long tapered leg of mutton style sleeves, wide lace trimmed cuffs, a fitted waist, cutaway skirted bottom, back bustle drape, hook closures down the front and is fully lined with quality construction detail, stays boning, weights sewn inside. There is an "M.A. Smyth & Co, New York" label sewn inside the waistband. The bodice measures 28 inches long, with a 22 inch waist, 30 inch bust, 22 inch long sleeves and is 10 inches across the top back shoulders. It is in excellent condition. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Victoriana mourning wearable art!
