This amazing antique Art Deco Egyptian Assuit shawl black net silver studded kaftan dress dates from the 1920s.

This amazing antique Art Deco Egyptian Assuit shawl black net silver studded kaftan dress dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black sheer cotton netting, covered with hand applied silver metal pieces done in decorative Art Deco abstract geometric diamond designs. Assuit shawls were made popular during the Egyptian Revival in the 1920s with the discovery of King Tut's tomb and were made in Assiut, Egypt. These Assuit shawls are also known as Tulle-bi-telli, Assuit, Asyut, Assyut, Assiut. Tulle-bi-telli translates roughly as "net with metal" and were sometimes custom made into fashionable clothing. This stunning Assuit shawl has been beautifully pieced together and made into a loose fitting kaftan style, long below knee length dress, with a V front studded neckline placket, long full sleeves and is fully lined in a black silk fabric inside. The dress measures 44 inches long, with 44 inch hips, a 44 inch waist and 42 inch bust. It is in excellent condition, with wonderful workmanship and construction. This is truly a rare, one of a kind piece of wearable Egyptian Revival textile art!
