This antique Victorian era black silk Chantilly lace passementerie mourning mantle pelerine cape dates from 1880. It is made of a black silk satin fabric, with black Chantilly lace, passementerie embellished trimmings, silk covered beaded ball fringe and ribbons. This lovely lace cape mourning mantle has a short cropped style, with a high band collar, hook closures down the front, broad shoulders with silk ribbon bows on the back, ball fringe trim around the bottom, back top, a ribbon waistband strap underneath, long lappet ends on both the front and back and is fully lined inside. The cape measures 12 inches long in the back, 31 inches long in the front with lappets, 19 inches wide across the back shoulders, with a 14 inch neck. It is in good as-is condition, with only a few missing silk ball fringe trim and some fraying on the inside silk lining. This is truly an amazing piece of antique Victoriana mourning wearable art!
