This antique Japanese yellow silk colorful embroidered duck bird belted kimono robe dates from the 1920s. It is made of a pastel yellow silk crepe de chine fabric, with colorful raised padded satin stitch hand embroidered flowers, birds and a large Mandarin duck on the back. The Mandarin duck is the symbol of fidelity, love and marriage, perhaps made for the Western European market as a tourist souvenir. This amazing Asian inspired Japonisme kimono robe has an attached front sash belt tie closure with embroidered strap ends, kimono style sleeves and is fully lined in a red and white check checkered pattern silk fabric with cotton batting inside for added warmth. The robe measures 50 inches long, with a 50 inch chest and 48 inch waist. It is in good condition, with several faint small stains and a small frayed open seam along the side.
