This antique Chinese dragon pongee raw silk embroidery fringe shawl tablecloth tapestry dates from the early 20th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a soft thin woven unbleached raw silk pongee fabric, with muted silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work with three dragons, clouds of smoke and pearls in the center. Dragons are a symbol of wit, intelligence, power, vitality, ambition and good fortune, making it an appropriate symbol for the emperor. This square shawl style tablecloth tapestry has a fine hand knotted macramé silk fringe trim measuring 6 inches long surrounding the entire shawl and is fully lined, backed in a silk fabric. The textile measures 44 by 44 inches. It is in good condition, with only some small faint stains and frays on the silk backing lining and a small frayed break in the fringe corner. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!
