It is made of a bright purple color mauveine aniline dye and gray striped silk taffeta fabric, with a woven tiny dotted square pattern weave.

This antique Victorian Civil War era purple and gray stripe silk taffeta hoop skirt belted dress dates from the 1860s. It is made of a bright purple color mauveine aniline dye and gray striped silk taffeta fabric, with a woven tiny dotted square pattern weave. There is hand made black lace trim edging the top, sleeves, belt and a white Brussels point de gaze lace collar, cuffs. This magnificent half mourning gown has a long floor length very full hoop skirt (hoop not included) with slight train back, a fitted bodice, with matching fabric, lace, button trim separate belt, long full sleeves, decorative purple and black silk covered buttons on the front top with brass hook closures hidden underneath and is fully lined in a polished cotton fabric. The dress measures 55 inches long in the front, 63 inches long in the back, with a 36 inch bust, 26 inch waist, 20 inch long sleeves and 14 inch back. The dress is in good as-is condition, with only some slight underarm discoloration and has several small frayed splits on the silk fabric (see close-ups). This would be perfect for display or design and is truly a rare and wonderful piece of half mourning Victoriana textile art!
