This antique Chinese purple silk Ji brocade embroidered floral cheongsam qipao robe dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a purple violet color silk damask weave brocade fabric with a woven Ji Chinese character for luck in roundels medallions throughout the fabric. There are pastel silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of flowers and butterflies, symbols of love and affection. There is white silk colorful embroidered floral butterfly trim edging along the front side opening, collar and cuffs. This magnificent Manchu womens cheongsam qipao one piece dress style robe is a long floor length, with long full sleeves, a front side opening with round carved brass button, black silk loop toggle closures which some are missing, frayed or broken and is fully lined in a bright blue turquoise color silk lining inside. Manchu women wore a one-piece dress which were called "qipao" or "banner dress" and later became the traditional dress for Chinese women. The robe measures 48 inches long, with a 42 inch chest and 42 inch waist. It is in good as-is condition, with a scattering of several tiny pin holes on the silk fabric and fraying along the embroidered trim edging (see close-ups).
