This antique Victorian Civil War era gentleman's black silk floral leaf embroidered mourning waistcoat vest dates from the 1860s. It is made of a black silk fabric with raised padded satin stitch hand embroidered flowers and leaves on the front. There is a brown polished cotton fabric backing, with an adjustable metal buckle, strap on the lower back. It is fully lined with cotton batting padding inside the front chest area. This dapper gentleman's mourning waistcoat vest has a V front opening, with a embroidered fold over lapel collar, three front pockets and six silk fabric covered buttons for closure on the front. The vest measures 22 inches long, with a 38 inch chest and 33 inch waist. It is in good as-is condition, with some fraying on the back collar, bottom hem, cotton backing with faint staining and back strap (see close-ups). This is truly a quality made men's early Victorian vest and wonderful piece of antique mourning wearable art!
