This antique Victorian Civil War era child's floral patchwork plaid print wool button back dress dates from the 1860s. It is hand stitched, made of a colorful indigo blue, mauve purple and brown floral leaf, plaid patchwork print fine wool fabric. This charming child's dress could have been worn by either a boy or girl. It has a gathered waist, short full skirt with layered stitching, long sleeves, decorative black silk covered buttons down the back with hidden hook closures underneath and only the top yoke is lined. The dress measures 22 inches long, with a 26 inch chest, 20 inch waist, 13 inch long sleeve and 12 inch back. It is in fair as-is condition, with frayed holes on the front yoke which have been backed, patched, some staining on the inside and a frayed hole on the bottom front skirt (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of early children's wearable Victoriana textile art!
