Edwardian Ladies Black Straw Sailor Boater Bicycling Hat. |
This antique Edwardian era ladies black straw sailor boater bicycling hat dates from 1910. It is made of a tightly woven black straw, with a black and white plaid silk ribbon hatband, decorative black felt wool circle trim accents and a newly added glued white dove bird feather trim on the side. This enormous sailor style boater hat has a large round low crown and wide brim, with inside strap and original hat pin for securing onto a large gibson girl style hairdo. This rare ladies hat would have been worn for outdoor sporting activities like bicycling. There is a "NSW" paper label lining the inside crown. The hat measures 19 inches inside crown circumference and 52 inches outside brim circumference. It is in excellent wearable condition, with no breaks and is a rare find.
