Antique Whitework Linen Lace Womens Indoor Cap. |
This antique early whitework linen lace women's indoor cap dates from the 1840s. It is hand stitched and made of a sheer fine linen fabric, with whitework needlework, broderie anglaise, embroidery, cutwork, drawnwork and valenciennes french bobbin lace. This ladies delicate day cap would have been worn by a married women indoors. It has a layered ruffled flounce edging the face and a drawstring gathered back curtain drape. The cap measures 14 inches in circumference around the face. It is in as-is fair fragile condition, with a few small frayed holes (see close-up).
