Victorian Emerald Green Velvet White Feather Brim Hat. |
This antique Victorian era emerald green velvet white feather brim hat dates from 1890. It is made of a emerald green color velvet fabric, with green and white silk chenille braid trim embroidery work covering the top brim. Under the brim is ruche gathers and pleating of the green velvet fabric lining. There is a fluffy white ostrich feather plume decorating the front of the hat. This dainty small plate style hat has a slouched round crown and uneven wide brim which is slightly turned up. There is a small inside crown lined in black polished cotton, which would have sat atop a full Gibson Girl style updo hairdo. The hat measures 40 inches outside circumference and inside crown is 17 inches in circumference. It is in excellent wearable condition.
