Victorian Pleated Black Green Velvet Wide Brim Plate Hat. |
This antique Victorian era pleated black and green velvet wide brim plate hat dates from 1890. It is made of a black silk satin and velvet fabric with pleated gathers and an emerald green color velvet fabric sash trim accent underneath the brim. There is a silver filigree metal rosette medallion trim under the front brim. This dainty small plate style hat has a small low round crown and flat wide brim which is slightly turned up. There is a small inside crown lined in black polished cotton, with a gold embossed European shield crest emblem. This quality made hat would have sat atop a full Gibson Girl style updo hairdo. The hat measures 40 inches outside circumference and inside crown is 17 inches in circumference. It is in excellent wearable condition.
