This antique Victorian era chartreuse black velvet jet beaded bonnet hat dates from 1890. It is made of a yellow green chartreuse and black silk velvet fabric draped with pleated gathers. There is a large circular medallion trim covered with faceted jet and steel cut beading on top. This dainty small plate style hat has a round flat brim, with wired wing velvet bow trim on the back. There is a small inside crown lined in black polished cotton, with a gold embossed "Blaylock & Blynn 824 Chestnut St. Philadelphia" millinery label inside. This exquisite quality made hat would have sat atop a full Gibson Girl style updo hairdo. The hat measures 28 inches in circumference and is in excellent wearable condition, with only a few tiny age spots on the velvet underneath and some dust particles. |
