This rare antique Chinese crane and bat silk couching embroidery mirror tall box wedding hat dates from the mid 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is all hand stitched, made of a black silk fabric, with gold metallic thread couching embroidery work which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There are blue and white silk raised padded satin stitch embroidery work of bats set with green glass jeweled eyes and a crane bird in a roundel circle. Bats and cranes represent happiness and longevity. There are Chinese symbols of the endless knot for longevity and eternity, the Wheel of the law-Karma which is one of the Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune and the Chinese character Xi which means joy. The hat has brass framed mirror disk trim hand sewn accents decorating the entire hat. This exceptional expertly embroidered stiffened tall squared box style confucius wise men wedding hat has a front and two side flaps and is fully lined.
