Edwardian WWI Black Silk Veiled Mourning Bonnet Cloche Hat. Tweet

This antique Edwardian era WWI black silk veiled mourning bonnet cloche hat dates from 1918. The hat is made of a black silk crepe fabric, with a sheer black silk chiffon fabric veil draping down the back and pleated detailing with button trim across the top and sides. There is a sheer black tulle net veil covering the front over the face and trimmed along the bottom in a pleated textured crepe fabric trim. This unusual end of World War I era mourning hat has a early cloche style and is form fitting, with a rounded bowl like shape. The hat is fully lined and measures 23 inches inside circumference, with a 36 inch long back veil and 9 inch long front veil. It is in good wearable condition, with only a small hole on the back of the hat and the silk veil (see close-ups). This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of WWI millinery history! $250 |
