This antique Victorian Civil War era gold metallic lace net bonnet cap hat dates from the 1860s. It is made of a wired frame covered with a sheer gold metallic mesh and gold metallic lace trim. There is a purple silk net fabric encircling the top, with matching silk grosgrain ribbon bow trim on the back which has all faded to a more brown color. This beautiful bonnet small evening cap ladies hat has a hand written note tucked inside which reads "Bonnet From White House attic found during renovation 1881" and is a museum deaccession with no other provenance or documentation. The bonnet measures 8 by 6 inches. It is in good wearable condition, with only some fading of the silk net and ribbon trim and some wear to the flower trim on the back. This is truly a rare historical find! |
