This antique Victorian era Deal label beige brown velvet flat wide brim portrait plate hat dates from 1890. It is made of a light brown beige color silk velvet fabric draped and gathered, with an off white ecru cream color silk trim. There is silk rosette trim on the back with bow accent and ruched gathering underneath. This large portrait plate style hat has a round flat outer brim, with a small inside crown lined in white silk and a "Deal 439 Main St. Wakefield, Mass." millinery label inside. This exquisite quality made hat would have sat atop a full Gibson Girl style updo hairdo with long hatpin's. The hat measures 40 inches in circumference and is in good wearable condition, with only some slight fraying of the silk trim and lining (see close-up).
