This antique Victorian Civil War era black silk mourning drawn spoon bonnet dates from the 1860s. It is made of a black silk satin fabric, with pleating and drawn gathering ruching around the inside the front brim. The outer front brim has a rigid ribbing detail for a stiffened look. There are silk ribbon ties for securing under the chin with curving sides and a curtain, cape, flounced fabric drape back. It is fully lined inside with a black muslin fabric. This beautiful bonnet measures 20 inches in circumference around the face and 13 inches deep. It is in good wearable condition, with only some minor wear along the folds and edging. This is truly a wonderful piece of wearable Victoriana mourning art! |
