This antique Victorian Civil War era green silk pleated ruched drawn shirred spoon bonnet dates from the 1860s. It is hand stitched, made of a stiffened white buckram linen cloth, mesh net lining the inside, cane supports sewn into the channels, covered with a olive green color pleated ruched silk fabric, with tiny tucks and gathers. This beautiful bonnet has long curving sides which come to a point at the bottom, a high tall front brim and a curtain cape flounced fabric drape back. There are no silk ribbon ties for securing onto the head. The bonnet measures 22 inches around the front opening and is 13 inches deep. It is in good condition, with only some minor wear, a few tiny frays and holes. This is a wonderful rare early find! |
