This antique Chinese red silk embroidered dragon beaded mirror wedding headdress hat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a red silk floral damask fabric, covering a stiffened white linen lining creating a box shape and scalloped crown top edged in white trim. There are colorful raised padded satin stitch embroidery work applique dragons and butterflies, with brass framed mirrors and beading. The Chinese character Xi for joy and Ji which means luck is created in pearl beading on both the front and back. There are red tassels on each end, colorful pompoms, white lace applique butterflies, pastel embroidered organdy ribbon streamers on the back and a human hair queue ponytail. This beautiful bridal wedding hat measures 11 1/2 inches tall, 17 inches wide and has a 24 inch head circumference. It is in good condition, but has some missing beading, pompoms, tangled tassels and a small stain on the front side trim. This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of unique antique Chinese textile art!
