This vintage Gilman Importers Ritz Carlton New York black horse hair straw wide brim cloche hat dates from the 1920s. The hat is made of a sheer woven black horse hair straw, with a black silk chiffon wired smaller brim lining underneath. There is black velvet trim edging the brim and a black silk velvet ribbon bow trim hatband. This beautiful grand cloche hat has a very wide, uneven layered wavy oval shaped brim, which is wider along the sides. There is a "Gilman Importers Paris New York 14 East 46th St. Opp Ritz Carlton Hotel" label sewn inside the silk sweatband. The hat measures 22 inches inside crown circumference and 50 inches outside. It is in excellent condition and looks to have never been worn. This is truly a wonderful piece of quality made wearable textile millinery art!
