This antique vintage Hungary regional folk costume blue burnout voided velvet gold trim cap archers hat dates from the late 19th century. It is made of a royal blue burnout voided velvet fabric with a floral leaf design, gold & blue silk fabric flower square print on top, gold bullion metal soutache embroidery and braided rope trim edging. This Hungarian hat archers bonnet style alpine cap was part of the traditional folk costume worn by the men of Hungary, with a floppy pointed top, rolled brim winged sides and is fully lined in silk with leather trim edging around the inside bottom. The blue bonnet measures 22 inches inside circumference. It is in good condition, with only some fraying on the inside silk lining and is a museum deaccession with "Hungary" written inside in ink (see close-up). This is a truly a rare and wonderful piece of early Hungary regional textile folk art! |
