This antique Victorian Civil War era C.F. Hovey & Co. Boston label black silk crepe veil full mourning bonnet hat dates from the 1860s. It is made of a black crepe fabric with a finely pleated rolled twisted trim around the base, covered with 2 layers of sheer black silk fabric and lined inside in black silk. There is pleating on the top with the original hat pins to secure it. This marvelous mourning bonnet has a layered veil which can be worn covering the face or folded back over the head and has a "C.F. Hovey & Co. Boston Paris" store label sewn inside. The bonnet measures 20 inches in circumference around the face and has a 30 inch long veil. It is in good condition. This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of Victoriana full mourning millinery!
