This antique Victorian era brown silk ruched ribbon steel cut button trim carriage bonnet travel cap hat dates from 1890. It is made of a brown silk and floral damask brocade ribbon fabric pieced sewn together with ruched gathering. There are brown silk rosettes with 1 inch decorative steel cut buttons of log cabins rustic outdoors scenes accenting the sides. This beautiful bonnet hood would have been worn for travel in a carriage and has a bonnet bed cap style with muffin top and silk ties for securing under the chin. It is fully lined in a brown pink floral striped print calico cotton chintz fabric inside. The bonnet measures 26 inches in circumference. It is in good as-is condition, with some small frayed splits in the silk fabric side and on the silk ties (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of Victoriana millinery art.
