This antique gold lame lace rhinestones Bavarian German folk bonnet Goldhaube hat dates from the late 19th century. It is made of a gold bullion metal thread woven lame fabric, lace and rhinestone beaded trim accents. This early European Goldhaube, Bodenhaube, haube hood headdress cap bonnet was the traditional tracht German folk costume worn by the women of the Bavarian region of Munich Germany. These caps took 200-300 working hours to create, at the price of several monthly wages and were known as "gold caps". The beautiful bonnet has a fitted cap style with rhinestones trimming the bottom edging and is sheer, lined in a black net mesh fabric. The cap measures 14 1/2 inches wide when laying flat and is 5 inches deep. It is in excellent condition. This is a truly a rare and wonderful piece of wearable early German regional millinery textile folk art! |
