This antique Chinese pink silk embroidered butterfly bound foot lotus slipper shoes date from the early 1900s. They are hand stitched and made of a salmon pink color silk fabric, with pastel raised padded satin stitch embroidery work done in a butterfly, chick and floral design. There is embroidered black silk trim edging along the top, toes and blue floral calico cotton fabric on the back heel lift. This pair of women's small slipper shoes are fully lined, with white fabric bottom soles and leather tipped pointed toe caps, heels. The shoes measures 5 1/4 inches long, 1 inches wide and 4 inches high. For over a thousand years Chinese women's beauty was judged by the size of their feet. The ideal foot was three inches long and shaped like a lotus bud flower. This pair of slippers show virtually little to no wear and were perhaps worn by a women of leisure. They are in good condition, with only a tiny fray along the silk front toe and some fade to the blue cotton fabric heel lift. These are truly a wonderful one of a kind piece of Chinese textile art which would make for a wonderful display piece! |
