This antique Chinese red silk embroidered butterfly bound foot lotus slipper wedding shoes date from the early 1900s. They are hand stitched and made of a red silk fabric, with pastel raised padded satin stitch embroidery work done in a lotus flower design. This pair of women's small slipper shoes are fully lined, with green silk fabric bottom soles. The shoes measures 5 inches long, 1 inches wide and 3 inches high. For over a thousand years Chinese women's beauty was judged by the size of their feet. The ideal foot was three inches long and shaped like a lotus bud flower. These petite pair of slippers were worn by a women of leisure on her wedding day. They are in good condition, but have fraying of the black silk trim edging along the tops. These are truly a wonderful one of a kind piece of Chinese textile art which would make for a wonderful display piece!
