|
This pair of antique Chinese child's red silk embroidered dragon shoes date from the 1920s. They are hand stitched, made of a red silk fabric, with black couching work trim and hand embroidery work creating a cute animal face on the fronts. Dragon shoes were used to frighten off evil spirits and to help a toddler learn how to walk. They were used as a protective symbol to attempt to ward off the high mortality rates. These precious little slipper style shoes have quilted stitching bottom soles and are fully lined in linen. The shoes measure 5 1/2 inches long, and 2 inches wide. They are in good condition, with only some slight wear and a tiny fray above one eye (see close-up). The shoes are a beautiful piece of antique Chinese textile art and would make for a wonderful display piece! |
