|
This antique Chinese silk embroidered mantis and bird bound foot lotus slipper shoes date from the early 1900s. They are hand stitched and made of a purplish red pink fuchsia color silk fabric, with colorful raised padded satin stitch embroidery work of a phoenix bird on one side and a praying mantis insect on the other side. The phoenix represents strength, resilience, good fortune, luck and the mantis mystery. There is black trim edging along the top. This pair of women's small slipper shoes are fully lined, with blue fabric bottom soles and leather cap nailed heels. The shoes measures 5 1/2 inches long, 1 inch wide on the front toes, 2 inches wide at the heel and are 3 inches high. For over a thousand years Chinese women's beauty was judged by the size of their feet. The ideal foot was three inches long and shaped like a lotus bud flower. This pair of slippers show virtually little to no wear. They are in good condition, with only a tiny fray along the braided rope trim edging. These are truly a wonderful one of a kind piece of Chinese textile art which would make for a wonderful display piece! $150 |
