This pair of antique Chinese forbidden stitch embroidered bound foot slippers platform shoes date from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. They are made of black velvet fabric front toes with gold metallic thread couching work, blue Peking knots and there are green silk sides with colorful silk raised padded satin, forbidden stitch hand embroidery work designs and red metallic braided woven trim edging around the tops. These small slipper style platform shoes have a cloth layered wedge quilted stitched hard leather bottom sole with painted white lifts. The shoes measure 7 inches long, and are 2 inches wide. For over a thousand years Chinese women's beauty was judged by the size of their feet which the ideal foot was three inches long and shaped like a lotus bud flower. These petite pair of slippers were worn by a women of leisure or for a special occasion. They are in good condition, with only some minor wear.
