Antique Battenburg Tape Lace Net Tassel Bedspread & Pillow Sham. |
This antique battenburg tape lace net bedspread and pillow sham set dates from 1915. It is made of an off white light ecru cream color sheer cotton net, with battenburg tape lace connecting brides and bars done in a scrolling floral leaf pattern design. There are decorative diamond shaped medallion lace designs done in the center, with linen rosette flowers and vine leaf raised applique work. There is tassel trim hanging down the side dust ruffle and bottom end. This lovely lace bedspread bed cover is a work of art and would have been used in a lady's private boudoir bedroom. The bedspread measures 85 inches long and 75 inches wide. Included is a matching long pillow sham cover which measures 60 inches long and 25 inches wide. The set is in good condition, but has not been cleaned and has a few faint age, water spot stains, a couple of small breaks in the lace, a few tiny pin holes in the net and some separation of the trim along the bottom edging (see close-up). It is a wonderful piece of antique lace textile art.
