This antique Chinese deity winged dragon hand painted silk fan dates from 1900. It is made of a black silk fabric, with a hand painted vibrant bright colorful design of a mythological Chinese warlord deity Chi You the god of rain battling Yinglong the winged dragon. The folklore comes from the "Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors" text stopping the Yellow River from flooding in the great deluge. There are black ebony wood sticks and guards, with a loop and rivet at the bottom holding the fan together. The large fan measures 16 inches long and 40 inches wide when opened. It is in excellent clean condition and looks to have never been used. This is a rare extraordinary piece of antique Chinese folklore mythology expertly done hand painted textile art.
