Victorian Lithograph Foil Inlay Pierced Flirting Mirror Fan. |
This antique Victorian era lithograph foil inlay pierced flirting mirror fan dates from the 1850s. It is made of pleated embossed silver foil and black paper with raised rococo design accents, cupids and hand colored painted lithographs. There are vignette medallion prints on both sides of early 1800 peasant scenes, with ladies, gentlemen, children and dogs. There are elaborate intricately carved and pierced bone sticks and guards, with silver foil inlay accents, etched floral designs and a decorative carved brass frame flirting mirror attached onto the guard. The bottom has a brass ring rivet holding the fan together and a gold bullion, yellow silk, pearl beaded tassel trim. The fan measures 10 1/2 inches long and 27 inches wide when opened. This fabulous fan is in excellent condition, with only minor wear and what appears to be an old small repair mend to one guard (see close-up). This is truly a rare work of art. |
