Victorian Gold Silk Sequin Ball Gown Dance Fan. |
This antique Victorian era gold silk sequin ball gown dance fan dates from the 1860s. It is made of an off white cream color silk fabric with cut out scalloped designs along the top and backed with a sheer gold metallic fine mesh net fabric. There are hand sewn tiny gold and silver sequins decorating the front. There are carved and pierced bone sticks and guards, with gold painted accent designs, silver inlays and a brass loop, mother of pearl rivet attached onto the bottom holding the fan together. This small dainty pretty petite fan might have been used by a lady for a special occasion dance, or wedding and worn with a ball gown. The fan measures 7 1/2 inches long and 20 inches wide when opened. This fabulous fan is in good condition, with only a few missing silver inlaid disks.
