Antique Chinese Gourd Silk Embroidered Pouch Purse Front and Back view.

This antique Chinese gourd silk embroidered pouch purse dates from the late Qing Dynasty during the early 1900s. It is hand stitched and made of a black silk fabric, with colorful pastel raised padded satin stitch embroidery work flowers. This small unique gourd shaped pouch bag style purse has black silk trim edging, with a finger loop at the top opening, black silk knot fringe tassels hanging down from either side and a blue silk damask brocade fabric lining inside. The gourd symbolizes longevity and the ability to ward off evil spirits. These pouches also called pockets were meant to hold small things such as coins or seals since there were no pockets on the clothing. The purse measures 6 by 5 inches. It is in good condition, with only some wear to the tassels with thinning missing fringe. It is a beautiful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile art.
