This antique Victorian era blue hand painted lithograph foil inlay pierced fan and box dates from the 1850s. It is made of pleated paper, with hand colored painted lithographs, a blue background front and silver foil accents. There are vignette medallion prints on both sides of 1700s court couples in romantic scenes of love and courtship, with flowers and birds in surrounding medallions on the front. There are elaborate intricately carved and pierced bone sticks and guards, with silver foil inlay accents, hand painted blue and pink floral designs. The bottom has a brass ring, with mother of pearl rivet holding the fan together. The fan measures 10 1/2 inches long and 28 1/2 inches wide when opened. This fabulous French fan comes in the original blue paper covered box, with gold foil embossed trim and cameo center. It is in excellent condition, with only minor wear and some some faint foxing and yellowing along the folds of the paper (see close-up). This is truly a rare work of art.
