Antique Chinese Dragon Gold Couching Embroidery Mirror Red Silk Wedding Banner Front view.

This antique Chinese dragon gold couching embroidery mirror red silk wedding banner dates from the mid 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is all hand stitched, made of a red silk fabric background, with colorful raised padded satin stitch embroidery work. There is gold metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There are precious objects of wealth and good fortune including scrolls, gourds, bats, peony flowers and two dragons facing each other with a pearl in the center. This exceptional expertly embroidered long wedding banner textile tapestry wall hanging has small brass framed mirror accents. There is colorful lotus peony flower silk embroidered trim and silk fringe tassel trim edging along the bottom . It is fully lined and backed in a blue linen fabric which has some water spotting stains, with a blue linen top and rod pocket for hanging. The tapestry measures 80 inches long and 18 inches wide. It is in good condition, but is in need of some minor restoration. There is some fraying along the red silk fabric top, a water spot stain on the blue linen fabric top, some missing silk fringe trim and a few broken missing mirrors (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of Chinese textile art.
