Antique 18th Century French Silk Brocade Fabric Gold Metallic Lace Purse. Tweet

This antique French silk brocade fabric gold metallic lace purse dates from the late 18th century. The fabrics used are late 18th century French silk damask brocades, with a colorful pastel floral pattern design, gold metallic lace, raised scrolling soutache work and tiny metal sequin trim accents. This pretty pouch purse has a bag style with flap closure, a white silk rope knotted carrying strap and oval mirrored bottom framed in gold metallic trim. It is fully lined in a peachy flesh colored silk fabric inside. The purse measures 10 by 8 inches. There is some fraying along the silk fabric bottom, exposing the linen inner lining backing (see close-up). The purse has some wear, along with remade recent additions, such as the rope handle, inside silk lining and flower applique trim on the bottom mirror and front flap. This is a wonderful piece of early textile art.
