This vintage black velvet tambour chain stitch embroidered Uzbek suzani textile dates from the 1950s. It is made of a black velvet fabric background, with strong vivid vibrant varying shades of colorful tambour chain stitch embroidery work, suzani needlework. There is a fabulous floral motif, with a variety of flowers, blossoms and vines both inside the center medallion and the surrounding border frame edging. This stunning textile has exquisite workmanship and detail, with a gold metallic fringe trim edging and blue cotton backing with inked lettering (see close-up). It measures 58 by 43 inches long and is in excellent condition. This wonderful Central Asia textile might have been used as a wall hanging, bed or table cover for a Russian Empire household or daughter's dowry. It is an extraordinary piece of embroidery textile art!
