This pair of antique Victorian era red silk ribbon rosette carnation lingerie stocking, glove, hankie holders date from 1900. They are made of a red silk fabric, with pastel silk ribbon work rosette carnation flowers outlined in red thread and hand embroidered green leaf stems. The carnation was a symbol of the bonds of affection and a good luck gift to a woman. These lovely lingerie envelope holders have a red silk rope and ribbon bow trim, with a quilted stitched lining inside. They would have held handkerchiefs, stockings and gloves. The holders each measure 6 1/2 by 15 1/2 inches and 9 by 9 inches. They are in good useable condition. These are truly a wonderful piece of Victoriana textile art!
